Vitiligo With Surgical Method

Surgical Treatment

To treat the Vitiligo, a skin disease we have these options for the Surgical Treatment:

Skin Grafting

  • It is possible using blisters.
  • Or can be done with the punches.

To begin the procedure it is essential that the patient always refer to the skin specialist. She/he would ask for the medical history first and then the patient will have to undergo a thorough examination.

After the completion of the skin examination, a thin shave of the skin is taken under the local anesthesia.

Under Blister Grafting the negative pressure is laid on the donor site. The blisters may be raised using the syringe, suction pump, and suction cups. It would take about 1 hour and more for the blisters to develop. After that the roof of the blisters is cut to the appropriate shapes, size and is gradually transplanted on the site of correction.

In Punch Grafting, the small sizes of the punch are transferred from the donor site to the recipient site. It is the least expensive way of grafting to cure Vitiligo. The patient needs to take a lot of care or else they may soon develop cobblestone appearance, polka dot appearance, and other similar skin problems.

Melanocyte Transplantation

It is the most advanced procedure of the surgery to cure Vitiligo. After the complete medical history of the patient, a thorough examination of the skin is also completed. A detailed biopsy of the skin from the donor area is completed before it is transferred to the recipient site. The second site is little abraded with dermabrasion only when the patient is under the affect of the local anaesthesia.

Later the skin cell mixture is applied which attaches them onto the recipient site quickly. The healing and the repigmentation start asap. And there is no fear of any infection as the cells belong to the patient’s own body.

Care: The patient needs to keep the area treated covered for about a week. In case of any discomfort, the patient should immediately see a doctor.
